Tonight I write with two people in mind. One is a friend who has been recently plagued with a less than glamorous experience despite her hard work, and the other is my grandmother whose husband just passed away. I know, these two people have different situations but my message to them is the same. Luckily, in this life, we are given the capability to love more than one person at a time. In fact, I encourage everyone to show love to each other because of the fact that we hold such capabilities to do so.
I believe these lyrics to hold truth for both women. In fact, there is no part that I will leave out, but I may switch a pronoun. Here is the first verse:
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
I know for a fact that these two women are hard workers, trying their hardest to please everyone and sometimes getting dealt some hard hands. I know my grandma loved her husband unconditionally and was there until death did part them. She never gave up, never second guessed what her role was. The other does the same for her job. She jumps through hoops to educate young minds and spends countless hours giving up her free time so that everything runs smoothly where she teaches. Sometimes, they feel like they are getting nowhere, that there is no light at the end of the tunnel.
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
This verse is strictly for my grandma. Granted, when the tears stream, I hope that it is out of happiness that my grandpa is no longer suffering from such a horrible disease. Sure, he isn't replaceable but his life, and their love didn't go to waste. She may feel robbed of the fact that cancer wasted his life away a little earlier than she may have liked but I know that she wouldn't take a second back from the time and memories they shared together.
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
To both women, that light you cannot see will come through. When you see it, you will regain that burst of energy that you may have lost trying to find it. And I will try my best to help you out with it. This is where I want to switch the pronoun. My reasoning for doing this is because there is a whole army of people willing to drop everything and encourage these women along the way. So with that, I say, WE will try to help you in any way we can.
And high up above or down below
When you're too in love to let it go
But if you never try you'll never know
Just what you're worth
This verse is dedicated to my friend. I know that lately things have been difficult. No one said this would be easy and I know how high you can get and I think I've recently seen you at a new low point. Try letting go of that love of pessimism. It won't help to where you are trying to go with life. I know that today you admitted to your downed spirit which spurred me to write some of this. I want to urge you, along with your army, that you should try new tactics to see the optimism in life, if you don't try, you'll never know what you are missing out on. That thing you'll be missing is the chance to allow us to see you at your old, awesome self. And, who knows, maybe you'll be a bit different because you may realize that no matter how deep you think you can get, you can still survive through it. Sure, you may be a bit battered and bruised, but you will be stronger for coming out alive. Plus, you wouldn't have this army behind you if you weren't worth it.
Tears stream down on your face
I promise you I will learn from my mistakes
Tears stream down on your face
And I...
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
These women are very dear to me in my life. One being an awesome friend, the other being a woman who has dedicated her life to her family. No matter what you go through in life, I can never repay you enough. Sure, I can listen, help out, or do whatever I can to make you better, but in my mind, it will never be enough to show how thankful I am to have you in my life. So I, along with your army, will continue to help out because of our love for you. When you fall, we will be there to pick you up. When you feel weak, we will feed you with God's word. And when you feel like your world is crumbling around you, feeling lost and alone, we will be there with the glue, a flashlight, and all the company you will ever need. So use your army, we are here for you. It's okay to feel vulnerable in hard times, you have the support you need. I want you both to know that no matter what, God has something around the corner waiting for you, something to uplift you, a light to guide you home, and that person is Jesus. He is the best one person army you could ever have. And HE will fix you.
